Cabin Fever / Today's Totals

Well it snowed... damn it. Other than going to town in my truck, I've been stuck inside for 2 days now. The water is flat, no wind. Icy roads...
For those of you that know me, have a great big laugh... Only for a select few.

Anyway, latest news:

The other 2 Dead Pirates are still lazy bums... Seriously, snowboarding? Chasing college girls? Collecting unemployment? My crew have left, it seems, for the winter...

My new bike is up and running. With winter riding, I'm still running it with fenders, sans rack. The original Fisher frame is over 50% rebuilt. I've added a 9 gear cassette. 30 inch tires. Composite rims. Super light and aggressive. I'm still researching nitrogen inflated tires. The reason is we use N charged auto tires on the blocks that haul crab lines in. Work thing... It may work, I'm thinking.

I've probably just given away a million dollar patent...

Ok, why am I excited about today???? It's 30 years ago that, THE ONLY BAND THAT EVER MATTERS, THE CLASH released London Calling. Their music changed my outlook as a dumb kid...

Why The Clash? It was the first time I beat the spandex, metro, French Canadian, butthurt, and feel free to add any descriptions... LONDON CALLING blasting through the headphones. Are ready for the ending?

Boundary Bay was playing that album for the post race beer fest. Epic and karmic.

This weeks totals ; 82 miles, and shut down for 2 days. Looking forward to the rain, and a return to our coastal temperate climate.

Cold / Today's Total

The cold weather is still kicking my hands butt. Latest experiment is an under liner and neoprine diver gloves. Worked, felt nothing, until my break to discover my hands wet. This trial does not breathe. The search goes on. Kudos for my bro Doug on the link...

Today's Total : 17 miles. Cold 22 degrees. New frame feels good, other than the new tires. I have over 1000 miles on the original Gary Fisher since August and have never felt comfortable on these 30" skinny tires. On the road, yes, but as soon as you hit trail, the stress level goes up. It's just not a stable trail ride. That's my gripe. Working with Kulshin Cycle to address this issue.

Back In The Saddle / Today's Totals

Down, but not out...

Gave the standby Trek Mt. Bike a roll. The Gary Fisher bike has spoiled me, but I enjoy the stability and ride from the spartan, stripped down Trek. New frame will be in this week. Hopefully will be back on it by Friday. I have finished stripping my old Fisher frame and am in the process of rebuilding it.

The other 2 Dead Pirates are lazy bums.

Today's totals : 18 miles. Clear, cold and sunny. High never peaked past 32. Hands still ache, even with new gloves.

Leaving Well Enough Alone / Todays Total

After my eary morning ride yesterday, I should have stayed home. I got whacked in Bellingham by this idiot Canadian. Irony?

My beloved Fisher is toast. However, I am promised a new frame tomorrow.

Todays Total : Staying home licking my wounds. Clear and cold.

Saturday Cold / Today's Total

4 a.m. kicked me awake with a bad dream. All I wanted was to sleep. It was horrific, and thanks for the cosmic joke of not actually remembering it...

4:30. Dark. Geared myself up, rode from Birch Bay to Bellingham on back roads. It was not as cold as yesterday, thanks to to the NW joke weather. My hands are still cold, damn it. It's the last bit of me that needs help. Wind and rain.

7:00 a.m. Home. Coffee, heat, breakfast. Kathy. I'm posting this. I love Kathy, I wish she would not smoke, but that's her deal.

Todays total : 28 miles. lower 30's clear and cold. Slow going, Trek bike still rocks.

Surving Snideness / Todays Total

The mangy crew of three managed to empty 4 growlers of Boundary Bay's best. It was a loathsome sight, sharing such an incredible IPA with a couple of homeless dudes in the alley. The best part was being told "move along" by BPD. Sadly, they cuffed the homeless dudes.

Hey. WTF? it's the holidaze.....

Bike club party was a joke. Will leave it at that. Finished the dark evening at The Rouge, planning our attack on the New Years Day race...

Todays Total : 15 miles. Clear and cold, but not as bad as yesterday. Tried out my new Red Ledge gear, with heavy sweatshirt. Too much weight, will return to under armor and smaller wind jacket. I've gone through 6 different pairs of gloves, and the hands ache from cold. So I am off to Mt. Baker Hardcore's shop to find a decent glove.

Winter Training / Today's Total

Winter has set in. Woke this morning to frost and frozen water. I retired my beloved Gary Fisher, and am now riding my average 15 - 20 miles on my heavier Trek Mt. Bike. As much as I love my 30" tires, I like the feel of a heavier trail tire on my trek. Speed has has slowed down, which is expected, but I guess I'm spoiled by my hybrid.

The team has taken a sabbatical until the Mt. Baker Bike Yuppie Growler Downing Crash Party Fest...

Todays total : 12 miles. 38 degrees. Clear and cold. Waiting for spring...

Annual Mt. Baker Bicycle Club Dinner

December 3, 2009. Annual dinner held at The Community Food Coop. 6:30 - 9:30.

Come join The Dead Pirates behind the Coop for liquid libations. After the growlers are finished, we will commence with the gate crashing of this pompous, spandex lovefest...

Comming soon...

The adventures of three miscreants who wage a weekly battle against spandex wearing French Canadian metros...
